THE RENAISSANCE WELCOMES BACK THE BEST GOLFERS IN THE WORLD

After four successful years at The Renaissance Club, the Genesis Scottish Open will once again be held at the East Lothian club in 2023.

Defending his title

The 2023 Scottish Open will take its traditional pre-Open slot, from 13th to 16th July, when Xander Schauffele will defend his title.

“The Renaissance Club is a magnificent venue for a Rolex Series event, situated in a simply stunning part of the world,” said Keith Pelley, the DP World Tour’s chief executive.

World number one, Scottie Scheffler commented, “It’s a fun golf course to play, and I really like the style of golf it requires of you. I feel like it helps with preparation going into The Open the following week too, getting a feel for the style of golf and also playing in a big event with such a strong field and supportive fans.”

Seven in nine

This will be the seventh time in nine years that the Scottish Open has been hosted on Scotland’s Golf Coast. Gullane hosted the tournament in 2015 and 2018, and now the Renaissance Club has added its fifth year in a row.

Thanks to a strategic alliance between the PGA and the DP World Tours, the Scottish Open is now a co-sanctioned event. The best players in the world will be able to compete for both FedEx and Race to Dubai points.

With the 151st Open being held at Royal Liverpool the following week, and with eight of the world’s top 10 men’s golfers teeing off at the Renaissance, it’s sure to be a fantastic week.

Open Champion made in Scotland

2021 Open champion, Collin Morikawa, was keen to point out that the Scottish Open helped prepare him for the challenge of Royal St George’s, “I’ve played in firm conditions. I can think of places I’ve played in tighter, drier conditions, but just having fescue fairways and the ball sitting a little different was huge to see last week.”

Scottish Open Renaissance Club 2020

In 2022, the Scottish Open was the first of two world-renowned Championships to arrive in East Lothian. The AIG Women’s Open in August was be held Muirfield for the first time, as East Lothian welcomed the world’s best from the women’s tours.

We can’t wait to welcome back the golfers and the crowds in their numbers. This really is another fantastic Championship year in East Lothian. There is no better way to showcase the quality of golf and golf tourism in East Lothian.
